Gold Star Scholars program

Operation Opportunity’s Gold Star Scholars Project will provide children of fallen service members with top-quality, personalized college preparatory services, free of charge. The Gold Star Scholars Project reflects our belief that when our nation’s service members make the ultimate sacrifice, we have the responsibility to make sure that their children are not left behind. Amidst the grief and stress from losing a parent in combat, the college application process can seem overwhelming. The Gold Star Scholars Project seeks to ensure that these students have the greatest possible opportunity to pursue their dreams.

Operation Opportunity and the Gold Star Scholars Project are partnering with a variety of existing organizations to maximize resources for participating children of fallen service members. Our partner organizations will range from leading college preparatory companies and private tutors to military and scholarship foundations to airline companies and government agencies. Gold Star Scholars will receive comprehensive college admissions mentoring, with full booklets on the process and advice on whether to take the SAT or ACT, private tutoring and resources for those tests, and advice on how to maximize financial aid and scholarship resources. On top of this, they will have a personal Ivy Corps mentor who’s been through it all and will speak with them every week and provide one-on-one advice on everything from preparing the FAFSA to writing college entrance essays to developing a list of target schools.
